OVERVIEW

Camille Rose Naturals (CRN) is back at this year’s Essence Festival with a bigger and better 3-day activation that will bring the brand’s “best self” campaign front and center to New Orleans. Executed at the famed Sheraton New Orleans Hotel, this exciting event will include a pop-up shop, sunset toast, fitness segment, and roundtable discussion, aptly called the Rose’ Roundtable. A branded activation, the Rose’ Roundtable was created by Camille Rose CEO Janell Stephens as a platform to inspire and empower both men and women through the wisdom and stories of it’s participants.

 

Continuously advocating for total wellness and inspiring others along the way, Janell created the Rose’ Roundtable as an intimate speaker series with the intention of bringing various celebrities, influencers and notable individuals together to discuss beauty, success, health, wellness, trends, current events and more. Each activation will include a lively discussion that is taped and live-streamed by a chosen media partner and provide the opportunity for roundtable participants to market and promote their specific endeavors through various channels and platforms.

 

Camille Rose was founded in the humble kitchen of Janell Stephens, a mother of five who was exasperated at the lack of healthy products available to combat her children’s sensitive skin. It was then that she began the brand that today can be found in a plethora of retailers nationwide including Target, Whole Foods, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walgreens, CVS, Sally’s Beauty and Walmart to name a few. As the brand continues to grow, the motto that “what you put on your body should be as healthy as what you put in it” continues to direct the brand as it creates luxury, food grade products that are health and nutrition based.

This project requires brew. To install, you may follow the steps here.

Prerequisites: Ruby Environment

​

This project employs Jekyll, a framework built on top of Ruby, to integrate with GitHub pages.

​

Install rbenv in your CLI using the command below (complete installation instructions are available from github.com/rbenv/rbenv): brew install rbenv ruby-build

​

Note: You will have a system version of Ruby pre-installed - avoid using this version and install your user-scoped version.

​

Run the command below to install the user-scoped version: rbenv install 3.1.2

​

Now set this version to be globally used on your development machine: rbenv global 3.1.2

​

Allow the installation process to fully complete. If it is not successful, may need to run rbenv init to set up the environment in your shell or close and reopen your terminal. To confirm the correct version of Ruby is installed, run the below command: ruby -v

 

After confirming the version of Ruby is correctly installed, you can proceed with installing Jekyll.

Jekyll

​

You may follow the Jekyll Getting Started docs directly with a user-scoped version of Ruby.

​

**Run the below to resolve any write permission errors during installation for the /Library/Ruby/Gems/2.6.0 directory: export GEM_HOME="$HOME/.gem"

 

Once installed, to generate the site, you will need to run: bundle exec jekyll serve

​

*** If an error occurs while trying to bundle and serve, run this command before attempting to use the serve command above: gem install --user-install ffi -- --enable-libffi-alloc

​

You should now see the completed build with the port to access the project locally. 

​

How to Update Github Pages (Remote)

​

When changes are pushed directly into the main branch, it will auto-deploy the changes to the Video team's GitHub page.

Styling

​

This project utilizes SCSS, a preprocessor with features that don't exist in CSS. It should work out of the box with Jekyll; if not, you can find installation instructions here.

How to Let Go of Interview Imposter Syndrome and Own your Story

 

If you've ever stopped yourself from applying to that job, asking for that promotion, or questioning your readiness mid-interview - you've probably experienced Imposter Syndrome. The phrase has gained popularity over the years, but studies show that 70% of us had felt like imposters long before we knew how to define it. 

 

Of course, we have these flashes of doubt in all walks of life, but anxiety, nerves, and fear of the unknown questions headed our way make the interviewing process the perfect social climate for Imposter Syndrome. 

 

What are the Signs of Imposter Syndrome?

 

Before we go any further, let's first understand IS (Imposter Syndrome) a little deeper. Dr. Pei-Han Cheng, a psychologist at the Center for Counseling and Consultation at St. John's University in New York City, states, "People with imposter syndrome have a sense of inadequacy, dismiss their achievements, and are very critical of themselves. Most of the time, they don't understand how competent they are because their mind reinforces that "You are a fraud." 

 

This fear of being a fraud can drastically impact our mental health, job performance, and relationships and even increase existing anxiety and depression. 

 

Interviewing with Imposter Syndrome on the Brain

 

To connect my experience with IS, I want to recall my first few interviews after entirely switching careers. In the age of Work-from-home (WFH), all my interviews were video/phone calls, which made it much more challenging to feel connected with my interviewer. (Here's a great article to equip you when you land one.) I remember feeling the belief in myself leaving my body as soon as I got the 'Tell Me About Yourself?' question. 

 

This fear made me walk away from every interview with the overwhelming belief that I missed selling and owning my story. I was striving so hard to tell the interviewer what I thought they wanted to hear that I missed sharing everything that made me - me.  

 

After a deep dive on the internet and an excellent Linkedin course on Imposter Syndrome, that feeling became smaller and smaller. 

 

How to Begin Shouting about yourself from the Rooftops (Literally)

 

There is a ton of content on Imposter Syndrome, but here are five tips I keep in my mental back pocket. 

 

  • Find a positive affirmation that you read out loud whenever you begin to doubt your success. 

 

  • Go crazy for 30 minutes a day - dance, sing in the shower, or do anything that makes you feel comfortable and confident in your skin. 

 

  • Keep a journal to document those moments when you downplay your wins or feel inadequate so you can revisit them and spot the pattern. 

 

  • Stop and take a digital detox if you're falling into the social media hole of comparing yourself to others. (I do this once a month, and it works wonders.)

 

  • Say yes to things even when you feel like you're not worthy of them because you will hit it out of the park. On the other hand, if you fall into the 'Superperson' type of Imposter Syndrome, say NO more often. 

 

Put these tips into practice, and chances are you will begin to embrace and showcase what a pretty cool human you are.

A young 15-year-old Ariyon Downing lives by these famous words from one Maya Angelou as she singlehandedly creates her personal and professional narrative. As the CEO and Founder of Liquid Cosmeticz, Ariyon has had a long-held obsession with makeup and the complexities of beauty. As an early teen Ariyon found herself in her mother’s makeup stash, carefully applying those magical wonders to her young face and found delight in watching herself be transformed before her own eyes. Ariyon knew that her beauty wasn’t dependent on the makeup that she played with in secrecy while her mother’s careful eye was looking in the other direction, but she had to admit that she enjoyed transforming herself with the swipe of a mascara wand or the puff of blush brush.  
 
It wasn’t long before a bottle of that same mascara went missing and before she knew it, her supply was unceremoniously cut off. Disgruntled but not deterred, Ariyon began thinking of alternate ways to continue nurturing her love of makeup and it wasn’t long before she had the idea that would change the trajectory of her life; she would start her own business selling makeup to teens like herself. The idea, that was initially just a dream that Ariyon kept to herself, soon became a reality once she discussed it with her mother who wholeheartedly supported her entrepreneurial endeavor.     
 
It was then that Liquid Cosmeticz came into existence and the young shy girl who herself had her own struggles with being herself and coming out of her cocoon, began to create makeup collections that could be used by teens, adult women and even boys and men, to enhance their natural beauty. In January 2018 the company formally launched, and she was able to recognize the power of turning an idea into a tangible business as people from around the world ordered the makeup collections from her website. As a certified business owner, Ariyon was able to learn firsthand the lessons that many individuals aren’t privy to until they are much older, and for that she is eternally grateful.  
 
As a Maryland resident and high school student, balancing a company and schoolwork is worth it for Ariyon who looks up to actresses Skai Jackson and Zendaya as young women who she aspires to emulate in the future. In a world where women, as well as teenage girls, are breaking barriers and making strides in various lucrative industries, there is no shortage of role models that are available to motivate and inspire this teenage entrepreneur.  Ariyon sees so much more for herself than a kid with a successful cosmetic line, with future career aspirations as a marketing coordinator and of course CEO of her own rapidly growing company. As her Liquid Cosmeticz continues to expand, she hopes to also one day be the founder of a charity that helps teenage girls to believe in themselves and follow their dreams as she is doing for herself. 
 
Ariyon knows that she has been given a rare opportunity to create a platform that other young women can look towards as inspiration to execute their own dreams. As her mother has told her, “An idea without action is merely a dream”, and Ariyon is all about making her dreams a reality. One step at a time.
